32nd Rathgar Scouts – Scouting since 1918

32nd Dublin Rathgar Scout group is based in Christ Church Rathgar, and has been a member of Scouting Ireland since its formation in January 2004. Rathgar Scout Troop has been in operation since 1917. The first meeting of the group occurred on Nov. 20th 1917, and we were later formally recognised and registered as the 32nd unit of the Dublin Scout Association in 1918, meeting in Rathmines. We later moved to Rathgar becoming 32nd Rathgar (Dublin) Scouts, a member of the Scout Association of Ireland, and ultimately joining the newly formed Scouting Ireland in 2004, the sole scouting organisation on the island of Ireland.

The group is one of 9 Scout groups which comprise the Dodder Scout County. The group as a whole has over 90 members and leaders spread over 4 sections. The aim of scouting is to develop young people Socially, Physically, Intellectually, Character, Emotionally and Spiritually. These elements are called the SPICES and are deeply integrated into the programme experience via the Scout Method, Personal Progress Awards and Programme designed by young people.

By engaging in a challenging programme of outdoor activities, young people in scouting go on a personal journey which sees them progress in each of these areas of personal growth. It is central to the ideals of scouting that this is a personal journey for each individual young person, so that they can complete it in a manner which suits their own abilities, interests and circumstances.
